Repetition

April 11, 2026

I'm a huge believer that confidence comes from purposeful practice and repetition.

At school, I had very little confidence in maths until I started doing equations regularly after school.

As a young basketball player, I didn’t have confidence dribbling with my left hand until I started practicing in an empty car park every day.

More recently, I didn’t have much confidence in sharing my ideas online until I started to post more frequently.

Children can look at people they admire for being exceptional at something and think they got there because they were born with confidence or a talent for that particular thing when really the exceptional thing is doing the reps.

Confidence for the child who isn’t yet comfortable collaborating, creating or contributing their ideas authentically in another language is just on the other side of them being shown what the purposeful practice looks like and being in an environment where they have sufficient opportunities to put the reps in.
